I love knitting and I love snow and today was filled with both!
I started my morning by loading the Week 3 Westy’s Besties KAL patterns into Ravelry. They are the Hofsós Hat, Mitts, and Pullover. These three patterns will be released February 22. You can see the yarn and yardage requirements along with Jared’s beautiful photos here.
Tomorrow is the Week 2 KAL release with Túngata

and the Kex Blanket.

I wear all of the Westy’s Besties KAL designs so I took some photos of me wearing the Hofsós set with snowy winter light coming in through the windows.
Hofsós Hat…

Hofsós Hat & Mitts…

just the mitts…

Hofsós Pullover…

I’d love to make a matching pair of Hofsós shorts and socks too so I could be covered in matching Brooklyn Tweed LOFT head to toe. I would be the most stylish covered in head to toe knitwear boy that was ever stylishly covered in head to toe knitwear.
After taking those photos in the warmth of my cozy home I bundled up in my Hofsós set and ventured into glorious snowy Amsterdam with my camera and a mission to find some wool sweaters to repurpose.

Amsterdam is always a beautiful walking city, but it becomes especially magical covered in snow.

I stumbled across a new second hand vintage shop called Petticoat and they had the perfect wool sweaters. They are in pristine condition, but I still plan to take scissors to them and transform them into some new creations. If all goes well I’ll share the finished projects with you, but here they are…

I also found a ridiculously good Sonia Rykiel sweater for only 15 euros.

I took advantage of the city’s snowy white outfit to do some colorscouting as well.

After my adventure, I spent the evening babysitting, (kidsitting if it’s a 10 year old?) which just meant we devoured pizza, ice cream, soda, and watched Les Misérables.
Now, I’m ready to knit more with Quince & Co. and repurpose those Norwegian wool sweaters. One more wintry Amsterdam photo for today…

Surround yourself with the things and people you love. Happy Valentine’s Day!

What a fantastic day. Good thrifting, good movie, good food and knitting.
The wool sweaters look fantastic. Why do you want to transform them?
I just love your pictures of walls, they are really great!
They’re beautiful, but I want to use their boxy shape for non-sweater things.
love everything!
i wanna try that hofsos (no fancy ‘o’ squiggly here) hat. but it looks scary complicated to me! can a regular, intermediate knitter make it??? i WANT to!!!
Love your keen eye for the special but simple!
I love color scouting in the snow. I live out in the countryside in an Amish settlement so there is plenty of white around me, white homes, white barns, white fences. I especially love it when they hang out the laundry (yes, they do this even in the winter time). Their colorful dresses against all that white strikes my fancy. My only frustration is that color scouting for me usually takes place in my car since the splashes of color are few & far between. Then, I feel silly pulling over to the side of the road to photograph someone’s laundry. Oh well – get over it right?
Yes, the body is knit flat with a few textural stitch patterns. You make one seam of the CO edge with the BO edge. Then the brim and top of the hat are knit in the rnd. It’s quite simple when you take it step by step.
thanks! i think i’ll give it a try.
I love the snowy Amsterdam pictures. The city does indeed get something magical covered in snow! I do like the new designs. I migh make a female version of the Hofsós pullover. I love the colours! It’s such a shame that Brooklyn tweed is so hard to come by in mainland Europe.
Looking forward to see what you make of the thrifted sweaters!
i love this post! it makes me miss amsterdam even more
also loving the new knitwear.
amazing photos!
happy weekend.
xo
When you have some time on your hands (because you don’t look at ALL busy) I think you really should sit down and design those matching shorts and socks, if only to post pictures on this blog of yourself stylishly covered in head to toe knitwear.
As clearly talented as you are with design and knitting, what I enjoy most about your blog is your humour and variety of photos. It almost makes me feel like I could be on the streets of Amsterdam in the snow and find inspiration for colours and design. Instead I am sitting here on a very warm, sunny morning with bare feet and no need to wear wool, thinking about where I might find the beautiful moments and pictures in my day to inspire me to finish some knitted projects.
Yes, I definitely want to have that matching knit set. I did make some other shorts with Quince & Co. Lark recently. I’ll share those later this year. Don’t worry, I sat inside all day today to craft in my living room. I’ll go out tomorrow though to get some fresh air.
Thanks! I take it for granted sometimes when I’m biking quickly to get somewhere, but it’s nice to take time to walk and observe the colors, architecture and people that are always around you.
Yes, Loop in London is the closest shop with Brooklyn Tweed yarns. Maybe some Finnish or Danish yarns would be good substitutes. Isager has amazing yarns and colors that would substitute for LOFT like Isager Highland Wool or Tvinni Tweed.
your knitting is amazing
love the sweater
I know the shop, have to have a look if the got more cool sweaters
